Rum: yum, yum

March 19, 2010

Okay, so I’m not much of a drinker.  Shocker, I know since I am an attorney.  I do, however, every once in a while enjoy my gin and tonic.

Where am I going with this? My point is, in recent months there has been a new establishment in town (Hollywood to be exact) that has captured my imagination. It is called La Descarga, and its theme is simple and vintage: Cuban rum bar. Uh-huh. Read this: 70 different kinds of rum. Who knew?

La Descarga opened its doors in January, and it has enjoined a healthy amount of buzz from local media. Reviewers have made much of the bar’s interior and vibe. Most say they feel as though they were transported to Havana. The bar has a cigar room, live music, ambiance, and even a fire dancer or two.

Reservations are required but allegedly easy to get. Simply go to their website and email your reservation. Don’t go hungry, especially if you’re the type who needs to eat before they imbibe alcohol. The bar does not have food, but as one helpful commentator pointed out, there is a 24-hour taco stand next door.
